BSES Birding Club, Fall 2018
The fall session of Trailblazers BSES Birding Club was by far our most exciting club season yet!
With a grand total of 45 species, the students of the club witnessed a handful of very exciting birds this season. We observed four species of warbler including spectacular views of Magnolia Warbler in the scrub shrubs of the east side of campus. We also observed multiple female Purple Finches as they fed on berries on our beloved trail. Although previously recorded before on the trail, these observations of Purple Finch and Magnolia Warbler were first-time sightings of the species on the trail for Trailblazers!
Most exciting of all though was our hawk watch session. We watched the mid-October skies from the bleachers of our baseball field in hopes of finding birds of prey soaring over, and we were handsomely rewarded! We had Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture, and not one but FIVE Bald Eagles!!!
